Allendale, Mich. - The Black team took a 267-250 victory over the Blue team at the annual Grand Valley State Intersquad Meet this afternoon at the GVSU Fieldhouse Pool.
Freshman Esteban Nunez Del Prado took the reins on winning three individual events. Competing in the Men's 100 Yard Butterfly, he touched the wall at 50.59. Nunez Del Prado also came in first place in the 50 Yard Butterfly with a time of 22.75, and touched the wall at 50.86 in the 100 Yard IM.
Junior Sara Alvarez was one of three swimmers that led the way with the most individual events won. Alvarez touched the wall at 11:05.77 in the Women's 1000 Yard Freestyle, 30.86 in the 50 Yard Breaststroke, and finished with a time of 1:05.94 in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Junior Lucy Hedley came in first in three events, touching the wall at 1:54.64 in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Hedley competed in the 50 Yard Freestyle and recorded a time of 24.13. She finished her last race with a time of 5:10.42 in the 500 Yard Freestyle.
Lastly, sophomore Vittoria Proietti touched the wall to get first place in the Women's 50 Yard Backstroke with a time of 27.46. Proietti also finished first in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 58.55 and touched the wall at 1:01.77 in the 100 Yard IM.
In the Women's 1 mtr. Diving, Senior Maddie Kooistra recorded a score of 168.30 to take first. Sophomore, Sadie Huizenga took first in the 3 mtr. Dive with a score of 179.45. Junior Carter Wood recorded a score of 195.45 in the 1 mtr. Dive and 150.30 in the Men's 3 mtr. Dive to take first in both events.
Other swimmers took victories in multiple different events and competed very well.
Relay winners for the Mixed 200 yard Freestyle were Angelica Angilletta, Carsyn Christoffel, Brennan Neitzel, and Annabelle Nixon with a time of 1:31.52. Winners for the Mixed 200 Yard Medley Relay were Ammar Eltaranisy, Liv Geiger, Lucy Hedley, and Esteban Nunez Del Prado finishing with a time of 1:40.04.
Getting the beginning of the season jitters out, Boyce and his team are on the hunt for another GLIAC Championship.
Grand Valley State will enter the 2024-25 season on Oct.12 when they compete down the road against University of Calvin and Saginaw Valley State at the Venema Aquatic Center. The first race will start at 1 p.m.
