The Lakers are one of the hottest teams in the country, winners of 12 straight, moving them to 20-1 overall and 9-1 in GLIAC play. The 20-1 mark sets a new program record for a start to a season and has risen them to #12 in the country. The Lakers took down Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech last weekend, sweeping the Wildcats, then beating the Huskies in four sets.
Brianna Stawski had 15 total blocks, en route to winning her third Defensive Player of the Week award of the season. The Lakers are second in the country, averaging 2.95 blocks per set and are fourth in the country holding opponents to a .109 hitting percentage.
In the first meeting between the Lakers and Panthers, GVSU came away with a sweep. They won 25-17, 25-11, and 25-22.
Jordyn Gates and
Paige Sanders each tallied seven kills to lead the team. GVSU totaled 15 blocks, with Sanders have 4.5 and
Kennedy Arp adding three.
Davenport is 9-13 in the first under head coach Charley Andrews, but they have been playing better as of late. The Panthers have won five of their past seven games to move to 5-6 in conference play, sitting in seventh in the GLIAC standings. Abby Alan is the main offensive force for DU, totaling 258 kills this season. Over the recent 5-2 stretch, Alan has double-digit kills in six of the games and has tallied 102 kills in those seven games. Finding Alan has been setter Mehl Hansen, who has 574 assists this season, ranking seventh in the GLIAC. The Lakers are looking to continue a streak of five straight victories over the Panthers.
Grand Valley played Ferris State in the opening game of league play back in September, with the Bulldogs handing GVSU their lone loss of the year in a four-set thriller. Ferris won their three sets in extra points, 26-24, 27-25, 11-25, 28-26.
Kendall Stover totaled 13 kills on a .364 hitting percentage, while
Meghan O'Sullivan recorded 12 kills and 16 assists.
Ferris State is one of two undefeated teams in the country, entering the weekend at 22-0, ranked second in the country. The Bulldogs have only dropped eight sets all season, and only two in league play. Olivia Henneman-Dallape has been a force on the outside all season, leading the GLIAC in kills per set (4.27) and points per set (4.86). She is second with 312 kills.
