ALLENDALE—The Grand Valley state softball team embarks on a trip to Rosemont, Illinois, for the GLIAC Tournament from Thursday to Sunday.
Â
The Lakers come into the tournament with the top seed, going 20-1 in conference play with their only loss coming to Purdue Northwest on Friday.
Â
GVSU's first game of the double-elimination tournament is set for Noon on Thursday against Parkside. The Lakers beat the Rangers in all four of the team's meetings this season.
Â
The Lakers have won four of the last five GLIAC Tournaments, including four straight from 2017 to 2021.
Â
The entirety of the GLIAC Tournament will be broadcast on FloSports, which is available to watch online with a paid subscription.
Â
REWRITING THE RECORD BOOK
Lydia Goble broke another school record last weekend against Purdue Northwest.
Â
She broke the GVSU Softball program career hits record with her 301st career hit on Friday in the first game of a doubleheader against Purdue Northwest.
Â
Goble broke Katie Martin's previous record of 300 career hits. Martin and Goble are the only two players in program history with 300 career hits or more.
Â
This season, Goble is hitting .466, which is the 17th-best batting average in Division II. She has 62 hits this season alone, which is good for No. 82 in the country.
Â
GLIAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK… AGAIN
Hannah Beatus was named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Â
Hannah Beatus tossed a pair of complete games this past week, downing Purdue Northwest in seven innings and shutting out Parkside in five innings.
Â
Beatus racked up 20 strikeouts this past week in 12 innings of work. She allowed three total runs on eight combined hits. Beatus was also a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
Â
The weekly honor is her seventh on the season and her fourth GLIAC Pitcher of the Week award in a row.
Â
Beatus is third in the nation, holding a 0.63 ERA on the season. She wrapped up the regular season with 146 strikeouts, a mark that leads the GLIAC and is 54th nationally. The senior pitcher racked up 20 wins during the regular season, which is 15th-most in Division II.
Â
FINISHING ATOP THE GLIAC
The Grand Valley State softball team finished at the top of the regular season standings with a 20-1 record.
Â
The Lakers beat every other GLIAC team at least twice and used the run-rule to win over half of their conference games (11 of 20).
Â
GVSU's regular season title was the 20th in program history and marked the Lakers' sixth consecutive regular season title.
Â
THE GLIAC Tournament has seen GVSU hositing the trophy in four of the last five times it has been played (2020 conference tournament canceled). Saginaw Valley won in 2022, but GVSU was the champion from 2017 to 2021.
Â
The Lakers look to get back to lifting the trophy in 2023.
