The Lakers advanced to the program's first ever Final Four by knocking off the top two seeds in the Midwest region last weekend. GVSU took down top-seeded Regis 15-11, then turned around and beat Indianapolis 11-10 in overtime. West Chester beat Seton Hill 21-8 in the Atlantic Region semifinals, then defeated East Stroudsburg 10-8 in the regional championship game.
In both games this past weekend, the Lakers got contributions all over the field. In the win over Regis,
Hailey Crittenden and
Molly Bursinger each scored four goals, while
Maddy Champagne and
Sydney Stone each had three.
Sarah Krause was in cage, and saved a then career-high 10 shots, and in front of her the defense caused 13 turnovers, led by
Hope Leinen's four. In Sunday's championship game, Krause was great in net once again, setting a new career-high with 12 saves, and the defense caused nine more turnovers. On the offensive end, Stone scored four more goals, including two in the final three minutes of play to force overtime, where Champagne won it for the Lakers on a free position attempt shot. The two wins moved the Lakers to 16-4 this season, and they are riding a 13-game winning streak.
West Chester comes in as the last undefeated team left in Division II at 21-0. The Golden Rams have dominated all season long, as only three of their wins have been by three goals or fewer. They currently hold the third ranked offense, scoring just over 18 goals a contest, and they also have the nation's second-best defense, allowing less than seven goals a game. On offense West Chester is led by Lindsay Monigle, Hannah Stanislawczyk, and Keri Barnett, all of whom have scored over 90 points this season. Jessica Gorr has started all 21 games in the cage for the Golden Rams, saving 166 shots on a .548 save percentage.
