Softball Lands Five On NFCA All-Midwest Region Team

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association released the 2023 NFCA Division II All-Region teams and Grand Valley State was well represented with five NFCA All-Midwest selections, including four on the first team. Seniors Lydia Goble (SS), Hannah Beatus (P), Joanna Cirrincione (OF), and Morgan Wagner (Utility) garnered first-team plaudits, while junior Kaitlin Lynch (OF) earned second-team honors. This year's squads are comprised of 204 student-athletes from 112 programs. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second-team selections. All the honorees are now eligible for selection to the 2023 NFCA Division II All-America squads. GVSU was one of six programs to have five or more honorees.
Grand Valley State (43-6) will continue its march in the 2023 NCAA Tournament with a best of three series at Indianapolis (53-8) starting Thursday (May 18) at 1 p.m.
 
Goble, the 2023 GLIAC Player of the Year, ranked 10th in the country with a .471 batting average on the season. Goble led GLIAC in RBI with 53, slugging percentage with an .824 mark, and OPS (1.346). The Schoolcraft, Michigan, native recorded 21 doubles, nine triples, five home runs, scored 46 runs and was 26-for-26 in stolen bases. 
 
Beatus, the three-time GLIAC Pitcher of the Year honoree, was dominant again in 2023. She is 25-1 with a 0.67 earned run average, a mark that led the GLIAC and ranked third nationally.  Beatus struck out a GLIAC-best 176 batters and allowed 17 runs, 15 of which were earned, in 156.2 innings. She tallied 14 shutouts, 23 complete games and opponents hit just .160 against her.
 
Cirrincione tallied a .395 batting average with 62 hits. She scored 48 runs and drove in 37, while stealing 26 bases. In addition, Cirrincione recorded a .467 on base percentage and a .970 OPS.  
 
Wagner saw time in the field at catcher, first base and third base during the 2023 campaign. She hit .390 on the season with 53 hits, 51 RBI and 21 runs scored. Wagner recorded 14 doubles and hit one home run.  
 
Lynch hit .399 on the season with 59 hits and 39 runs scored. She recorded a .451 on base percentage and an .877 OPS.
