Laker Softball Wraps Up Regular Season With Three Consecutive Doubleheaders

ALLENDALE—The Grand Valley State softball team has a packed weekend with three consecutive days of doubleheaders.
 
The Lakers take on Purdue Northwest beginning at 2 p.m. in Hammond, Indiana, on Friday. GVSU then travels to Kenosha, Wisconsin, for a doubleheader against Parkside at 1 p.m. The weekend concludes with a doubleheader between the Lakers and Ferris State on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the GVSU Softball Field.
 
The first game against Ferris State will resume and conclude the second game from their doubleheader on April 3. The second game is going to be the make-up game from April 16, which saw weather postpone the second game of that doubleheader.
 
SCOUTING THE PRIDE
 
Purdue Northwest comes into the weekend 29-19 and have won three of their last four games. The Pride are the GLIAC leaders in home runs with 25 on the season.
 
Selena Michko leads the Pride with a .401 average and is the conference leader in home runs with eight. Michko has driven in 41 runs this season, which is third-most in the conference.
 
Maddison Roop leads Purdue Northwest in the circle. She holds a 1.84 ERA in 16 appearances, which is tied for third-best in the GLIAC this season. Gabby Paliska leads the Pride with 56 strikeouts.
 
SCOUTING THE RANGERS
 
The Rangers hold a 14-28 record with a 5-15 mark in conference play. Parkside has lost six of its last seven games. 
 
Cassie Rutledge leads the way for the Rangers in the batter's box with a .327 average. She is also tied for the team lead in home runs with five. Mia Johnson also has five home runs for the Rangers this season. Jadynn Powell leads Parkside with 24 RBI on the year.
 
Kiley Akey is the Rangers' leader in the circle. She has tossed 20 games, including 19 starts. She holds a 4.47 ERA through 105 innings pitched. Akey leads Parkside in strikeouts with 44.
 
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
 
The Bulldogs are 20-30 this season and head into the weekend on a two-game skid. Ferris State leads the GLIAC in stolen bases with 110 swipes this season.
 
Evelyn Blood leads the way with a .331 average for Ferris State. Kylie Winkels leads the Bulldogs with 28 RBI on the season. She also leads Ferris State with three home runs.
 
Aryn Gallacher holds a team-leading 2.78 ERA, a mark which is good for seventh-best in the GLIAC this season. Catherine O'Donohue is the Bulldogs' leading strikeout-thrower. She has tossed 64 strikeouts this year.
 
SWEEPIN' IT
 
The Lakers swept the conference weekly awards this past week. 
 
Lydia Goble was named GLIAC Player of the Week and Hannah Beatus was named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week.
 
Goble helped lead the Lakers to a 5-0 week, going 8-for-16 in the batter's box. She racked up 10 RBI with a four-RBI performance against Davenport in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Goble had three-RBI games in both of the Lakers' games against Wayne State.
 
The senior shortstop from Schoolcraft totaled five extra base hits this past week: two doubles, two triples and a home run. Goble drew one walk and stole one base for the Lakers. Her home run against Wayne State was the fourth of the season and she has accumulated 44 RBI this season.
 
Goble is hitting .476 this season, which leads the GLIAC by 51 points. She leads the GLIAC and is 14th in the country in batting average. Her 41 RBI this season ranks second in thee GLIAC and 89th in Division II.
 
Beatus claimed her sixth conference Pitcher of the Week award this season. The honor marks her third consecutive weekly honor.
 
The North Aurora, Illinois, native pitched three complete games and picked up three victories for GVSU. She tossed seven-inning shutouts against Saginaw Valley and Davenport. Beatus also beat Wayne State with a five-inning victory.
 
Beatus allowed only two runs last week, both coming against Wayne State on Sunday. She surrendered 15 hits overall last week, but struck out 26 batters over 19 innings.
 
The senior pitcher's 0.51 ERA on the season leads Division II and her 126 strikeouts leads the GLIAC. She owns an 18-1 record on the season.
