Brad Rumsey Named Grand Valley State Offensive Line Coach

03.09.2023

Grand Valley State head football coach Scott Wooster announced the hiring of Brad Rumsey as the offensive line for the Lakers. Rumsey most recently completed his 11th season as an assistant coach at Olivet College where he served as the offensive coordinator, offensive line coach and co-recruiting coordinator.

"My family and I are extremely grateful for the opportunity to join the Grand Valley State football program," said Rumsey. "During the interview process it became evident that the staff, the culture and the people that surround GVSU football are what makes this program so special. I am excited to get into the Hosford Football Center and begin preparations for the 2023 season," added Rumsey.

Olivet College was 62-34 overall from 2013-2022 with an NCAA D3 playoff appearance in 2016 when the Comets finished 9-2. Olivet recorded nine of the top 12 single-season scoring totals during Rumsey's time on the staff. In addition, Olivet tallied offensive records for rushing, passing and total offense during his tenure.

"We went through an extensive search and interview process, and I know that we found the exact fit to coach the offensive line at Grand Valley State," said first-year head coach Scott Wooster. "Brad combines the fundamental and schematic expertise with the ability to build relationships within that position group."

Prior to joining Olivet's staff, he spent the 2011 season as the tight ends and assistant offensive line coach at Trine (Ind.) University. Rumsey served in the same capacity at Ave Maria (Fla.) University during the 2010 season. Other coaching duties included being the offensive and defensive line coach at Concord High School in 2009 and student assistant at Hillsdale College.

Rumsey earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Hillsdale in 2008. He was a four-year letterwinner in football for the Chargers, playing on the offensive line and serving as a long snapper.

Rumsey and his wife, Carly, are the proud parents of son, Watson, and daughter, Wren.
