GVSU's travel plans for the weekend were changed drastically due to inclement weather forecasted in Ohio over the weekend.

The Lakers were originally set for doubleheaders against Ohio Dominican and Cedarville, but both of those doubleheaders got canceled. GVSU and Tiffin were originally set for a Sunday doubleheader, but forecasted weather moved those games to Monday.

SOAKING UP THE SUN
The Lakers are coming off a week-long trip to Florida that featured 12 games in seven days. GVSU went 10-2 and outscored its opponents 73-23.Â

Hannah Beatus started four games for the Lakers, going 3-1 and did not allow an earned run. She struck out 28 batters in 27 innings of work in Florida.

Ashley Platek went 4-0 in the circle for GVSU in The Sunshine State. She tossed four complete games and allowed seven earned runs. Platek struck out 18 batters. Platek capped off the week with a two-hit shutout against Southwest Minnesota State.

GVSU came in ranked seventh in the NFCA Week 5 Coaches Poll, which was a lateral move for the Lakers after being ranked seventh in the Week 4 poll.Â

The Lakers were ranked 10th in the NFCA Preseason Coaches Poll and have spent the past three weeks in the top 10.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Hannah Beatus was named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, the conference announced.

She tossed three complete games to help the Lakers finish 8-2 last week. She threw two shutout complete games and allowed one unearned run in her other start in the circle. In total, Beatus struck out 19 batters and 10 total hits across three starts.

The Lakers outscored their opponents 22-1 in the three games Beatus started. She moves to 5-1 on the season and has already racked up 50 strikeouts.

The Lakers have claimed the last three GLIAC pitcher of the Week honors.
Nevaeh Ingram won the award last week for her five-inning no-hitter against Glenville State. Beatus claimed the award the week before for her performances at the Lewis Dome Tournament, including a no-hitter to open the season against Minnesota-Duluth.

GVSU is the eighth-best team in Division II in ERA, boasting a 1.45 cumulative ERA. It also has a cumulative WHIP of 0.98, which is good for 12th-best in the country. The GVSU pitchers have combined for seven shutouts, which ranks 11th nationally.
