ALLENDALE--The Grand Valley State men's basketball team returns home for a weekend against the Upper Peninsula teams, kicking off with an 8 p.m. Thursday night matchup with Michigan Tech inside of the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
The matchup can be seen live on local TV via WXSP-TV or online via FloSports with a paid subscription. Tom Cleary will be on the call for television viewers. The game will be aired on radio on The Thunder (107.3 FM) with Bryan Fongers on the call.
The Lakers dominated Davenport in their last outing to get back in the win column. GVSU took down the Panthers, 87-61, on Saturday behind strong performances from Trevon Gunter and the Laker bigs. Gunter scored 15 points on a 5-for-10 shooting performance. All five of Gunter's field goals came from beyond the 3-point line in the first half. Marius Grazulis notched his second double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and collecting 11 rebounds. Kingsley Okanu also made his presence felt down low, scoring 11 points and grabbing five rebounds.
GVSU won its first game against Michigan Tech this season. The Lakers won in Houghton, 74-61, behind 17 Grazulis points and a 13-0 surge in the second half. The Huskies are hot, having won three consecutive games before their trip tho the Grand Rapids area. Michigan Tech has beaten Lake Superior State, Wayne State and Saginaw Valley in its last three games.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Michigan Tech comes into Thursday night's game riding the second-longest active win streak in the GLIAC. The Huskies have won three straight, taking down LSSU, Wayne State and SVSU. The Huskies are averaging 76.33 points during the win streak, which is over eight points more than their season average of 68.
Dan Gherezgher is Michigan Tech's leading scorer, averaging 11.3 points per game. Michigan Tech is a high-volume 3-point shooting team, hoisting 25.6 triples per game, which is the 41st-most in the NCAA and second-most in the GLIAC. The Huskies shoot 36.1 percent from deep, which is the 92nd-best clip in the country and the seventh-best clip in the GLIAC.

Shooting percentages and rebounding are solid indicators of the Lakers' success. GVSU is 11-1 in games when it outshoots its opponents. GVSU is also 6-1 when it shoots better than 50 percent from the field. The Lakers are also 6-1 when they score 80 points or more. On the glass, GVSU has won 11 games when it outrebound s its opponents. In their last outing, the Lakers dominated the glass, outrebounding Davenport, 49-30.

Rebounding is an emphasis for the Lakers and it shows up on the stats sheet. GVSU is No. 37 in the NCAA in rebounding margin, averaging five more rebounds per game than its opponents. The mark also ranks third in the GLIAC. The Lakers are second in the conference in offensive rebounds per game with 11.14 offensive boards per game. That is good enough to rank 72nd in the country.
