Box Score 2 ROSEMONT, Ill.—The Grand Valley State softball team opened its season on Friday with two wins at the Lewis Dome Tournament, taking down Minnesota Duluth, 1-0, and defeating Walsh, 9-1.

GAME 1 – GVSU 1, Minnesota Duluth 0

The Lakers opened the 2023 campaign with a no-hitter from
Hannah Beatus (1-0). The perfect game is Beatus' seventh career no-hitter. The lone baserunner for Minnesota Duluth (13-4) came in the seventh inning when a batter reached on an error.

Beatus tossed a perfect seven innings and tossed 11 strikeouts in her 2023 debut. Beatus' no-hitter marks the 26
th no-hitter for the Lakers since 2000.

In the batter's box, GVSU needed just the one run to seal the first victory of 2023. In the bottom of the first inning,
Lydia Goble tripled to center field.
Morgan Wagner was the next batter up and singled to drive in Goble and put the Lakers up 1-0.

The Lakers almost struck again in the sixth inning, loading the bases with three consecutive singles to start the inning, but were unable to cash in.

GAME 2 – GVSU 9, Walsh 1

The Lakers offense opened the flood gates in the second game and scored nine runs.
Â
The first inning alone saw four Lakers cross home plate.
Lydia Goble and
Morgan Wagner hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the first inning for the Lakers. Goble and
MaryJane Goodman also scored in the first inning to give GVSU a 4-0 lead after one inning.

GVSU scored their remaining five runs in the bottom half of the third inning.
Paige Ligocki doubled home
Jenna Ballard after Ballard hit a one-out single.
Megan Koenigshof bunted home
Alexis McCullough after McCollough ran for Ligocki. Goble hit a sacrifice fly, Wagner hit her second RBI double of the game and
Joanna Cirrincione scored to give GVSU a 9-0 lead after three innings.

Walsh (0-1) got on the board in the fifth inning, scoring once, but were unable to avoid the run-rule after five innings.

In the circle for the Lakers,
Ashley Platek (1-0) pitched all five innings, surrendering only one run on four hits. Platek struck out seven batters and issued three walks.

GVSU (2-0) returns to action on Saturday for another pair of games at the Lewis Dome Tournament. The Lakers will take on Truman State at 10 a.m. and then will play William Jewell at 4:30 p.m.
