ALLENDALE--The Grand Valley State men's basketball team plays its final regular season road game of the season at 3 p.m. on Saturday against Wayne State in Detroit.
The matchup can be seen live online via WSUAthletics.com/watch with a paid subscription ($5.95 for 24 hours of access). The game will be aired on radio on The Ticket (106.1 FM) with Bryan Fongers on the call.
The Lakers' three-game win streak was snapped on Thursday night, losing to Saginaw Valley, 93-80, in University Center. Luke Toliver led GVSU with 15 points on a 5-for-10 shooting night. Marius Grazulis led the Lakers in rebounding with six and Trevor Smith had a team-high five assists.
Wayne State is fresh off a, 68-63, victory against Davenport on Thursday night. Prior to Thursday, the Warriors were on a seven-game losing skid.
GVSU dropped the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 12. Wayne State got a pair of 20-plus-point performances back in January.
The Lakers sit just one game behind Lake Superior State for fourth place in the GLIAC. GVSU has locked up a spot in the GLIAC Tournament but a top-four spot would put the Lakers' first game inside of the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
Wayne State beat Davenport on Thursday night, 68-63. Prior to their victory, the Warriors had lost seven straight. Wayne State is still fighting for a GLIAC Tournament berth, sitting in seventh place but are only one game ahead of ninth. In the first meeting between the Lakers and Warriors, Wayne State won, 72-63, and had 20-plus-point performances from Antonio Marshall and Carmelo Harris.
Antonio Marshall leads the Warriors in scoring, averaging 14.7 points per game. Wayne State has two other players averaging 10 or more in Avery Lewis (14.1 ppg) and Carmelo Harris (13.3 ppg). Wayne State's offense ranks last in the GLIAC in scoring and field goal percentage.
BOUNCING BACK
GVSU is coming off a loss to Saginaw Valley on Thursday night. The Lakers are 6-3 in games following a loss this season and haven't lost consecutive games since the beginning of December. GVSU has also won four of its last five road contests. The Laker offense has been sharp following losses this season and are averaging 79 points per game following a loss.
AYE AYE, CAPTAIN!
Marius Grazulis was selected as GVSU's captain prior to this season and has led the Lakers on the court as well as in the locker room. Grazulis leads GVSU in scoring with 12.4 points per game and rebounding with 6.4 rebounds per game. Grazulis is also ranked 33rd in the nation and first in the conference in offensive rebounds per game with 3.04 offensive boards per contest.
