ALLENDALE--The Grand Valley State men's basketball finishes its weekend road trip to take on Purdue Northwest at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup can be seen live online via JEDTV with a paid subscription. The game will be aired on radio on The Ticket (106.1 FM) with Bryan Fongers on the call.
GVSU's four-game win streak was snapped on Thursday night. The Lakers battled, but lost to the Rangers, 81-72. Chinedu Kingsley Okanu led the way for the Lakers with 12 points. He added 4 rebounds, led GVSU with five assists and had two blocks against the Rangers. Trevon Gunter also scored 11 points for GVSU, while Parker Day and Luke Toliver both added nine points of their own. Marius Grazulis led the way on the glass again for the Lakers, grabbing five rebounds.Â
Parkside's Rasheed Bello dropped 36 points, added eight assists and six steals on Thursday night. All three of those marks are season highs by a Laker opponent this season.
Purdue Northwest comes off a victory against Davenport on Thursday night. The Pride beat the Panthers, 82-75. Historically, GVSU and Purdue Northwest have played just eight times. On all but one occasion, the Lakers have come out of the game as the victor. The lone Pride win was a, 78-74, victory for Purdue Northwest back in the 2018-19 season.
SCOUTING THE PRIDE
Purdue Northwest has won three of their previous four outings. The Pride beat Davenport, 82-75, on Thursday night to move to 2-3 in conference play. Their other GLIAC win came against Michigan Tech on Dec. 3.Â
The Pride shoot from distance at a high volume. Purdue Northwest is 33rd in the country in 3-point makes per game at 9.8. The Pride also have two prolific scorers. Alou Dillon and Mikell Cooper both average over 15 points per game and are both shooting better than 34 percent from 3-point range. Dillon makes 6.5 shots from the floor per game, which is the fourth-highest total in the GLIAC.

GVSU is one of the nation's best at knocking down shots from behind the 3-point line. The Lakers are 29th in the country, making 39.4 percent of their attempts from distance. GVSU knocks down just shy of eight triples per game. Luke Toliver, Trevon Gunter and Britain Harris all shoot the 3-ball at over a 40 percent clip. GVSU is one of two teams in the GLIAC to have three players shooting triples at a 40 percent clip or higher.
FOLLOW THE NUMBERS
Shooting percentages and rebounding have been solid indicators of GVSU's success this season. When the Lakers shoot better from the field, they are 6-1. On the flip side, when the GVSU opponent shoots better from the floor, it is 1-6 on the season. The lone win while being outshot came against McKendree. On the glass, six of the Lakers' seven wins have seen GVSU outrebound its opponent.
