Volleyball Prepares For Purdue Northwest And Parkside

Lakers Face PNW Friday And Parkside On Saturday

ALLENDALE, MICH. – Conference play heads into weekend number two this Friday and Saturday, and GVSU women's volleyball stays on the road to face PNW and Parkside. The Lakers open the weekend Friday night at Purdue Northwest at 8pm followed by a trip to Kenosha, Wisconsin to take on Parkside at 3pm on Saturday.
 
Grand Valley is off to a strong start over their first 10 games, beginning 7-3 overall and 1-1 in GLIAC play after sweeping Michigan Tech and losing to Northern Michigan last weekend. Both Jaelianna Primus and Kendall Stover kicked off the conference season nicely up in the U.P. Primus recorded 20 kills and seven blocks over the two matches, all while swinging at a .355 clip. Stover had 18 kills and nine digs and continued her strong play as she leads the team with 94 kills on the season. After their start to the season the Lakers are among the teams' receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll.
 
Purdue Northwest comes into play this weekend with a 6-4 record and opened GLIAC play 1-1 after falling to Wayne State 2-3 before beating Lake Superior State 3-1 in the first weekend of conference play. Outside hitter Lauren Sanders was very good to open conference action, totaling 29 kills and 14 digs, and is the team leader in kills at 106. Freshman setter Marina Gronkiewicz has 106 assists on the year, including the 45 she dished out last weekend. Kylie Martin has put the defensive in defensive specialist for the Pride, digging out 114 balls, good enough for fourth in all the GLIAC.
 
In the final game of the weekend, the Lakers travel to Wisconsin to face off against the Parkside Rangers. The Rangers are 5-5 and 0-2 in conference play after getting swept by both Ferris State and SVSU last weekend. Right side Jazmine Neal, a returning All-GLIAC honorable mention last season, leads the squad with 100 kills, 2.86 kills per set, and 124.5 points this season. The Rangers are third in the conference with 72 service aces, led by Elizabeth Truckenbrod who is fourth in the conference with 21 aces. Lindsay Krznarich and Neal rank second and third in the conference for total blocks, with Krznarich totaling 39 and Neal blocking 37.
