No. 11 Lakers Face Upper Iowa and Concordia St. Paul for Second Time this Season

GVSU is looking to extend 4-0 GLIAC Record

The No. 11 Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team is 12-1 on the season and 4-0 in the GLIAC as they hit the road to face Upper Iowa and Concordia St. Paul for the second time this season. The Lakers are heading to Fayette, Iowa to face the Upper Iowa Peacocks on Friday, April 8, and then will travel to Saint Paul, Minnesota on Sunday, April 10 to play the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears.

The Lakers are coming off of a 21-4 win over Northern Michigan and a 19-3 victory over the Davenport Panthers. Sophomore Maddy Champagne led the Lakers with four goals against NMU, while senior Sophie Conroy netted a season-high six goals against DU. After the pair of GLIAC wins, the Lakers swept the GLIAC Player of the Week honors with Conroy recognized as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week and senior Leigha Johnson named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

The Lakers have scored 212 goals this season and are currently leading the GLIAC with 81 assists and a 52% save percentage. Sophomore goalkeeper Audrey Maloney leads the GLIAC with a 51.3 save percentage, goals-against average of 6.38 goals per game, and is third in saves with 59 saves this season. Conroy is third in the GLIAC in points scored this season (53) as well as third in goals scored this year (39). Junior Maggie Hammer is also fourth in the GLIAC in assists (20). 

The Peacocks are still looking for their first win as they enter this weekend 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the conference. GVSU defeated the Peacocks 24-0 earlier this season at home with freshman Ellie Bernard leading the way for the Lakers with a career-high four goals. The Golden Bears are currently 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the GLIAC. The Lakers defeated CSP at home 17-5 and were led by junior Molly Bursinger, who finished the day with five goals, seven draw controls, and two assists.
