Volleyball Readies For Weekend At Home And On The Road

Lakers Play Ferris State At Home On Saturday, Then LSSU On The Road Sunday

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley women's volleyball team is set to play both at home and on the road this weekend. The Lakers will take on rival Ferris State at home on Saturday afternoon at 2pm, then travel across the bridge into the upper peninsula to face off against Lake Superior State on Sunday at 3pm.
 
The Lakers are coming off a weekend in which they swept both Parkside and Purdue Northwest in straight sets. GVSU maintained their hold on fourth place in the GLIAC standings at 6-3 in conference, while sitting 12-5 overall. Kendall Stover continues to lead the team in kills with 147, followed by Jordyn Gates (142), and Sarah Wight (133). Gates is the leading setter on the squad, doling out 311 assists, while Rachel Jacquay has 306. Jaelianna Primus and Wight lead the Lakers at the net, with Primus blocking 40 shots this season and Wight adding 37.
 
Ferris State comes into this weekend as the top team in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs are 11-7 overall, but 8-1 in conference play, with their only loss coming in a five-set match against Davenport. They have the top setter in the conference in Kaylee Maat, who's 704 assists lead the conference, and she is the only setter in the conference with double digits assists per set. Olivia Henneman-Dallape (195) and Claire Nowicki (194) lead the Bulldogs in kills. Leah Bylut is third in the conference with 270 digs, and Syann Fairfield is third in the GLIAC with 54 total blocks.
 
In the road matchup to close out the weekend, GVSU takes on LSSU. Lake Superior State enters the match as the last place team in the conference, at 0-9 in GLIAC play and 1-16 overall, with their only win coming in their third game of the year against Minnesota-Crookston. They come in on a 14-game losing streak and have only won five sets throughout conference play. Junior Emilee McDaniel is the leading attacker for LSSU, averaging 2.71 kills per set with 160 total on the year. Emily Kalinowski ranks fifth in the GLIAC in assists at 531, while also being second on the team in digs at 144, only behind Ally Lasley's 199 digs.
