AUSTIN, Texas -- Two graduated seniors from the Grand Valley State softball team continue to rake in awards even as their careers come to a close;
Brooke Henning and
Nikoma Holmen have been named first team Academic All-District 4, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), for the 2021 spring season. Both will be eligible for All-America consideration, which will be announced later this month.
Â
Henning finished her collegiate career with a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA in biomedical sciences. This is her second All-District honors in as many seasons, earning the award in 2020 despite the COVID-19 shortened campaign. She was the recipient of the prestigious Elite 90 Award in 2019 as the highest GPA holder at the Division II Women's College World Series.
Â
She hit .273 with a home run and 23 RBI this season while scoring 26 runs, going 9-12 in stolen base attempts and getting hit by 10 pitches, the fourth-most by a Laker in a single season. The starting right fielder helped the Lakers to a second straight Midwest Region Championship, third straight GLIAC Tournament title and fourth consecutive GLIAC regular season championship, culminating in a tie for fifth place in the nation for the 2021 season.
Â
Holmen held a 3.41 GPA in finance and was a unanimous all-region selection in her senior season as she continued her offensive dominance. She led the Lakers with a .414 batting average, clubbed 13 home runs and 15 doubles while driving in 61 runs and scoring 33 times. Her 133 total bases and .735 SLG% both led the GLIAC as she earned conference Player of the Year honors.
Â
Despite losing most of her junior season to the COVID-19 cancellation, she is etched all over the GVSU record book. The three-time All-Region honoree and 2019 unanimous All-American ranks third in career slugging percentage, total bases and RBI, fourth in home runs and fifth in doubles.
Â
The two graduated seniors will be eligible for Academic All-America teams, which will be revealed on Wednesday, July 28. For more information on CoSIDA and the Academic All-America program, visit CoSIDA.com.
