ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 12 Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team hosts the GLIAC Tournament this weekend after collecting the Regular Season Title and No. 1 seed, thanks to a perfect conference record.  No. 4 Ashland has seceded from the tournament due to COVID-19 protocols, giving the Lakers a first-round bye and automatic admission to Sunday's championship game.  Friday night's game between No. 2 Davenport and No. 3 Northern Michigan has now moved to take the 4 p.m. slot.

In the final GLIAC Player of the Week selections, Molly Bursinger and Anna Gritter earned the Offensive and Defensive mentions, respectively, marking the third time the Lakers have swept the weekly honors this season.

The Laker defense has ranked atop the GLIAC leaderboard the entirety of the season, with goalkeeper Payton Neil allowing the fewest goals (33) and lowest goals against average (5.59).  As a whole, the defenders have limited opponents to an average of 6.77 goals this season, which includes five or fewer goals six times.

Offensively, Maddy Champagne (39), Sophie Conroy (38) and Molly Bursinger (37) rank in spots 4-6 in netted goals this season.  Bursinger has won 63 draw controls this season, good for the team high.

The Lakers will match-up against the winner of Friday afternoon's game between No. 2 Davenport and No. 3 Northern Michigan.  GVSU routed both teams this season, handing Davenport their only two losses and dealing Northern Michigan a double-digit weekend sweep.

The last GLIAC Tournament won by the Lakers happened in 2016, which marked their fourth program title in as many years.  Sunday's Championship Title game is set for a noon draw.
