It was quite a day for the #8 seeded Grand Valley State women's golf team at the 2021 NCAA DII Women's Golf National Championship. The Lakers advanced to the Medal Match Championship portion of the tournament as the #8 seed after stroke play and squared off against #1-seeded Limestone. GVSU claimed a 3-2 upset over top-seeded Limestone in quarterfinal action, but dropped a 3-2 match to #5 Dallas Baptist in semifinal round action.
Medal match is scored by the
cumulative number of strokes won by rather than the number of holes won. Up 3 means that the player is
up by 3 strokes, not 3 holes. The player up by the most strokes after 18 holes wins the match.
Senior
Maria Sol Pose turned in a stellar performance as the first golfer out and shot a 78, claiming a two stroke win. Freshman
Julia Sanchez followed with a four stroke win after shooting a 73.
