Box Score 2 EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The No. 21 Grand Valley State Lakers split their two games on the second day of the Midwest Region Crossover Saturday (March 6) at Deacones Sports Park, beating Lake Erie 6-1 before falling to Travecca Nazarene, 4-3, in extra innings. The Lakers are now 5-2 on the season.
The Lakers scored a first-inning run for the third straight game in the opener when Goble launched a solo homer.
Brooke Henning and
Megan Koenigshof each singled home runs in the fourth to make it a 3-0 game.
The teams would trade single tallies in the fifth as
Taylor Rieger tripled then scored on a Goble sacrifice fly.
Paige Ligocki would single home an insurance run in the sixth and an error would allow another run to score later in the frame to round out the scoring.
Hannah Dieck (W, 2-0) went five innings in the circle, allowing one run on a pair of hits and three walks while striking out three.
Ashley Platek (S, 1) hurled two perfect innings of relief to close out the win.
Trailing 2-0 entering the sixth inning of game two, the Lakers offense came to life with a home run from Henning and RBI single by Koenigshof to tie the game. The Trojans loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but
Hannah Beatus (L, 1-1) was able to tightrope out of danger to force extra innings.
In the ensuing frame,
Morgan Wagner would score on a wild pitch with two outs in the eighth but Travecca answered with two runs in the home half to walk off in extras.
