GVSU wraps up home indoor action in Tune-Up

GLIAC Championships set for next weekend at SVSU

ALLENDALE, Mich. – For the final time this season, the Laker track and field teams wrapped up action at the Kelly Family Sports Center on Friday (Feb. 19).  A combined two automatic marks and one provisional mark were met by both squads.
 
Freshman Madelyn Allman finished third in the 60H with a time of 9.69 seconds.  In the distance events, Sarah May led the mile competition with a first-place finish of 5:00.77 while Landyn Howell crossed the 3,000m line in 10:32.85, good for second place.
 
GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week, Elli Kimes, picked up a third-place finish in the pole vault with a clear of 4.06m.  Junior Anna Obi posted an 11.22m leap in the triple jump, earning a second-place finish.  In the throws, Elizabeth Pyles (1st; 13.86m) and Emma Richards (2nd; 13.35) showed strong marks in the shot put, while Franesha Robinson-Mitchell collected a first-place mark of 18.01m in the weight throw. 
 
Jack Duininck (1:55.04), Talon Knauf (1:58.54) and Derrick Egli (1:59.03) punched a 3-4-5 finish in the 800m.  Junior Bennet Peterson defeated the mile competition with a time of 4:27.53, while freshman Caleb Swart finished sixth in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:32.42.
 
Freshman Myles Kerner officially punched his ticket to the Division II National Championships with a launch of 17.51m in the shot put, while Hunter Harding placed his name at the No. 6 rank in the USTFCCCA weight throw leaderboard for the season with a 20.29m finish.  James Nutt (3rd) and Marcus Lubbers (4th) both hit a 4.65m clear in the pole vault. 
 
GVSU heads to Saginaw Valley State for the GLIAC Indoor Championships next weekend (Feb. 27-28) before taking a week off to prepare for nationals (March 11-13).
