Junior carries 4.00 GPA in Biomedical Sciences

05.20.2020

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State outfielder Brooke Henning has been selected as a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District first team member for the 2020 season. Henning, who is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration, carries a 4.00 GPA in biomedical science while also starting all 16 games for the Lakers this season. Active CoSIDA members nominate and vote for the Academic All-District teams, with first team members gaining eligibility for Academic All-America consideration.

The Academic All-America program is designed to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Due to the season's premature cancelation, this year's nominees were selected based on career stats and 2020 projections.

The junior was hitting .275 with three home runs and 12 RBI early in 2020. She earned the prestigious Elite 90 Award last season, holding the highest GPA of any athlete at the College World Series. Per NCAA revisions, she can repeat as a junior in 2021 if she wishes with no expiration of eligibility.

Henning and the Lakers were the No. 3 team in the national preseason poll and had rattled off 11 straight wins before the cancelation of the remainder of the spring athletic season.
