GVSU Men Finish 3rd At Don Underwood Invite; Freshman Charles Delong Claims Medalist Honors

Grand Valley State used steady play in the third round and finished third at the Don Underwood Invitational with a 54-hole team score of 879 (+27). Findlay claimed first-place honors with a 864 (+12), followed by Wayne State in second with an 869 (+17). GVSU freshman Charles DeLong claimed medalist honors in his first collegiate golf tournament with a -3 210. DeLong, who carded a final round 69, was the only player in the field to shoot two rounds in the 60's (69, 72, 69).

Freshman Nick Krueger finished 13th with a 219 (+6) and shot the low round of the tournament with a round two 66. Senior Mathew Orwig shot a 224 (+11) and finished 25th, followed by a pair of freshmen in Drew Coble and Alex Jordon who finished 34th with a 228 (+15). Junior Eric Nunn finished 49th with a 233 (+20), senior Owen Rush 59th with a 241 (+28), junior Jackson Stowe 72nd with a 248 (+34) and junior Sean Sooch 74th with a 259 (+46). 

"Charles played well, remained composed and had the next shot mentality throughout the tourney," said head coach Gary Bissell.  "I thought we competed throughout the lineup, but we have a lot of room for growth."
