Lakers Win UIndy Invitational In Record-Setting Performance

INDIANPOLIS, IND. – It is time to update the Grand Valley State men's golf record book, after the team broke or tied six records over their three rounds at the UIndy Invitational. The Lakers dominated the whole event, cruising to a 23-stroke win, their second victory of the fall.
 
Results
 
The Lakers set new 18-hole, 36-hole, and 54-hole records as a team. Their second round of 269 is the new lowest 18-hole score, while their second and third round score of 539 is the new record for 36 holes, and their total score of 813 is the new lowest 54-hole mark by 15 strokes.
 
On the individual side, Maverick Conaway carded a 62 (-10) in the final round to set the new 18-hole record, breaking the previous mark by two strokes. Additionally, Bryce Wheeler won the event, tying the 36-hole (132) record and setting a new 54-hole (201) record, finishing at -15.
 
Wheeler carded rounds of 68, 64, and 69 to end at -15, earning his second career victory. He made 18 birdies and one eagle over his three rounds to shoot a 201, besting the previous mark by one stroke. Charlie Cooley tied for second at -11. He shot a final round of 67 (-5), making four birdies and an eagle. Conaway and Andrew Gwilliams both ended in a tie for fourth, finishing at nine under. Conaway's round of 62 included six birdies and two eagles, helping him climb from yesterday's 20th placement, all the way up to fourth. Gwilliams made three birdies in his round of 73 (+1) to record his second straight top five finish. Manuel Cue Vargas had a final round of 72 (E), sinking two birdies and an eagle to end in a tie for 11th at five under. Ryan Gallagher finished in a tie for 46th at five over, as he had a final round of 72, with three birdies.

The Lakers are off for a couple of weeks, next competing at the Copperhead Championship from October 13th through the 14th.
