Laker Golf Completes Day One In Florida

PALM HARBOR, FLA. – The seventh-ranked GVSU men's golf team was down in the Sunshine State for the Copperhead Championship, playing two of the three rounds Monday.

The field consists of 15 teams, all of whom are either ranked or receiving votes in the latest GCAA poll. Host West Florida leads the pack after the opening two rounds, sitting at nine under par. Lee is in second at five under, with the Lakers and Wingate tied for third at two over par. In fifth is Nova Southeaster, who ended the day at six over.
 
Andrew Gwilliams shot rounds of 70 (-1) and 69 (-2), to end in a tie for second at three under, making eight birdies on the day. Bryce Wheeler made five birdies and an eagle in his rounds of 73 (+2) and 68 (-3), finishing in a tie for 7th at one under. Charlie Cooley and Manuel Cue Vargas both finished in a tie for 33rd at four over. Cooley carded rounds of 72 (+1) and 74 (+3), with four birdies, while Cue had eight birdies in his rounds of 74 and 72. Maverick Conaway shot a 72 and a 76 (+5) with four birdies, to finish at six over par, in a tie for 46th.
 
The Lakers will play the final round of the event tomorrow.
