NCAA Tournament Field/Bracket
Â
The Grand Valley State softball team has once again been named the #1 seed in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Tournament and will host the Midwest 1 Regional Tournament this weekend starting Thursday, May 9 with the championship game scheduled for Saturday, May 11. The Lakers will enter the NCAA postseason with a 44-8 overall record after winning back-to-back GLIAC Tournament Titles with a 2-1 victory over Northwood. The Lakers have also won two straight GLIAC Regular Season titles after posting a 24-6 record against conference competition.Â
Â
The Lakers will face #8 seed Hillsdale in a rematch of the opening game of the 2018 regional tournament, a game in which they fell 1-0 to the Chargers. That tournament saw the Lakers claw their way back through the loser's bracket before coming just one victory short when they fell to eventual National Champion Southern Indiana, 2-1, in the championship game.Â
Â
The Lakers will also be hosting #4 seed Southern Indiana and #5 seed Wayne state – who face off at 2:30 PM on the GVSU Softball Field – to round out the Midwest Region 1 bracket. The #2 seed was won by Missouri-St. Louis as they will host the Midwest Region 2 Tournament that features #3 seed Indianapolis, #6 seed Truman, and #7 seed Illinois-Springfield.Â
Â
The winner of the Midwest Region 1 and Midwest Region 2 Tournaments will then travel to the higher seeds field to determine the NCAA Midwest Super Regional for an opportunity to advance to the NCAA DII Softball College World Series.Â
