HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State men's tennis team traveled to Houghton, Mich. to battle Michigan Tech and won its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener on Friday (March 22) afternoon, 7-0, at the Gates Tennis Center. With the win the Lakers improved to 10-4 overall (1-0, GLIAC), while the Huskies dropped to 2-6 (0-1, GLIAC) on the season.
 
Doubles Order: 3,2,1
The Lakers started the match off with a sweep in doubles after 
Jack Dausman and 
Nicholas Urban tallied a 6-0 win from the No. 3 spot, while 
Jack Geissler and 
Martin Matov won, 6-1, from the No. 2 pairing. The Lakers completed the sweep after nationally ranked doubles team No. 38 
Sebastien Lescoulie and 
DJ Colantone, won 6-2, from No. 1 doubles.
 
Singles Order: 2, 3, 1, 4, 6, 5
The Lakers kept the pressure on the Huskies during singles as they would sweep them again. Geissler and Matov captured the first two point during singles after they both  won 6-1, 6-2, from the No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Lescoulie clinched the match for GVSU after he won 6-3, 6-1, from the No. 1 spot. The Lakers earned three more points after Dasuman (No. 4; 6-2, 6-0) 
Eric Zwemer (No. 5; 6-2, 6-2) and 
Nicolas Welker (No. 6; 6-2, 6-1) all won their matches.
 
Grand Valley State will be back in action on Saturday (March 23), as they head to Sault Ste. Marie to take on Lake Superior State at 10 a.m.
