The Grand Valley State men's tennis team started its 2019 season with a 6-0 home win over the Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan on Thursday night at the Premier Athletic & Tennis Club. The Lakers are now 1-0 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 15-2.

GVSU started off strong after they swept Indiana Wesleyan in doubles to take a 1-0 lead. The Lakers scored their first points after
Nicholas Urban and
Jack Dausman won 6-2 from the No. 3 pairing, before another victory from the No. 2 spot as
Martin Matov and
Jack Geissler won 6-3. The Lakers also saw another victory from the No. 1 doubles position as
Sebastien Lescoulie and
DJ Colantone won 7-6(5).

The Lakers continued their strong play into singles as they won five more matches on the night. Dausman won in three sets from the No. 3 spot as he would take the first set 6-3, fell in the second set 3-6, before winning the third set by a score of 10-6. Geissler won 6-3, 6-4, from the No. 2 position, while Lescoulie captured a comeback win from the No. 1 position with a score of 1-6, 6-1, 10-2. The Lakers captured their final two points of the match after Colantone won 6-3, 6-4, from the No. 5 position, as Matov won 6-1, 7-6 from the No. 4 slot.

Grand Valley State will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 16) as they host Indiana Tech at the Premier Athletic & Tennis Club with first serve starting at 6:30 p.m.
