The Grand Valley State volleyball team will hit the road for the first time in GLIAC play this weekend as they take on Purdue Northwest (Friday, 8:00 P.M ET) and Wisconsin Parkside (Saturday, 3:00 P.M ET). After opening the GLIAC season with five-straight home matches, the Lakers will be playing just their third true road match of the year on Friday. GVSU defeated UNC Pembroke on their home floor on September 7 during the opening weekend before dropping a five-set match with Nova Southeastern the following weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Lakers currently sit at 5-8 overall and 1-4 in GLIAC play.

Last week, GVSU earned their first GLIAC win of the season in a five-set comeback victory over Davenport (25-15, 17-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-7). The Lakers put together one of their better performances of the season in Tuesday's win including leading the Panthers in all major statistical categories. GVSU held the advantage in kills (65-48), attack percentage (.193-.156), points (88-62), blocks (12-6), assists (63-44), and digs (92-86). Over the weekend, the Lakers dropped a pair of matches against Wayne State (2-3) and Ashland (0-3).

Freshman
Jaeli Primus continues to shine in her first season in the Laker blue and white. The Hudsonville, Mich. native leads the GLIAC and ranks seventh in the nation with 65 total blocks and her GLIAC-leading 17 solo blocks ranks eighth in the country. Primus also has recorded 125 kills with a .296 attack percentage this season.

The Pride have struggled so far in the 2019 season as they sit with a 2-10 overall record and a 0-5 mark in GLIAC play. After winning two out of three matches during the opening weekend, Purdue Northwest has dropped nine straight matches. Last weekend the Pride fell to Ferris State in three sets on Friday before dropping a 3-1 match with Northwood on Saturday.

PNW ranks towards the bottom of the conference in several statistical categories including; attack percentage (.135, 11
th), kills (430, 12
th), assists (400, 12
th), digs (565, 12
th), and total blocks (67, T-11
th). Individually, the Pride are led by Annie Pulizos who has a team-high 100 kills and 38 blocks. Setter Brooke Ahrens has tallied 298 assists, while leading the GLIAC in services aces per set at 0.61.

The Rangers are currently 4-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play with a matchup vs. Davenport set for Friday at 7:00 P.M. Parkside owns GLIAC victories over Wayne State (3-2) and Purdue Northwest (3-0), while falling to Ashland (0-3), Northwood (2-3), and #16 Ferris State (0-3). A non-conference matchup with #6 Lewis on Tuesday (Oct. 1) resulted in a 3-0 loss for the Rangers.

Parkside ranks in the lower-half of the conference in most statistical categories as well. The Rangers are currently ninth in kills (544), 12
th in attack percentage (.134), ninth in assists (491), eighth in digs (722), and sixth in total blocks (89). Rachel Hedman leads Parkside in kills with 141, setter Alysha Brickl leads in assists at 245, and Carlee Behnke has a team-high 38 total blocks.
