ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State volleyball team is back in Allendale after a pair of road contests last weekend. The Lakers will host #14 Ferris State on Friday at 7:00 P.M. before taking on Northwood at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday.
On Friday, GVSU will be wearing pink uniforms for their annual Dig Pink Night in support of breast cancer awareness month and the first 250 students will receive a free pink GVSU hat.
Last weekend the Lakers snapped a two-match losing streak and defeated both Purdue Northwest and Wisconsin-Parkside in straight sets. Sophomore
Ali Thompson and freshman
Jaeli Primus each put together solid weekends. Thompson recorded 22 kills with a .330 attack % and 19 digs, while Primus totaled 17 kills with a .469 attack % and nine total blocks.
After GLIAC play last weekend, GVSU finds themselves tied for sixth with four other teams at 3-4 in the conference standings. Ashland, Ferris State, and Michigan Tech are tied atop the league at 6-1, followed by Saginaw Valley (5-2), and Northwood (4-3). The Lakers, who are tied with Wayne State, Davenport and Northern Michigan in the sixth position, will have an opportunity to raise their place in the standings this weekend as they take on Northwood, who is one game ahead of GVSU.
Primus continues to dominate the GLIAC in total and solo blocks. The Hudsonville, Mich. native has a league-leading 74 total blocks which is 16 more than the second place mark. The 74 total blocks also ranks 12
th in the nation and her 21 solo blocks is tied for 5
th in the country. Senior
Kendall Yerkes is tied for second in the GLIAC in services aces with 20 and is also fourth in digs with 215. Sophomore

Rachel Jacquay is seventh in the GLIAC with 502 assists and redshirt freshman
Emma Clines is ninth in the league with 168 kills.
Ferris State – Friday at 7:00 P.M. (DIG Pink Night)
The Bulldogs have continued their success from the 2018 season. After winning both the GLIAC regular season and tournament championships, Ferris State has started GLIAC play 6-1 and owns a 12-3 overall record. The defending league champions started out the year strong by winning four straight matches before dropping two straight at the Colorado Premier Tournament to West Florida and Concordia-St. Paul. The Bulldogs then dropped their second GLIAC match to Saginaw Valley State, but have won five straight since that loss without dropping a set.
Ferris State leads the GLIAC as a team in attack % (.259), digs per set (18.70), and have the fewest errors at 215. Individually, Lauren Helsen ranks first in the conference in digs per set at 5.34, while Allyson Cappel is fifth in kills per set at 3.65.
Northwood – Saturday at 4:00 P.M.
The Timberwolves began the season 0-7 before jumping out to a 4-1 start to GLIAC play. Northwood defeated Saginaw Valley, Lake Superior State, Parkside, and Purdue Northwest, but are currently on a two-game losing streak after falling to both Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan last weekend. The four conference wins have matched the Timberwolves total from last season with nine GLIAC contests still to be played.
Northwood is led by Carson Rutherford (127 kills, 116 digs) and Mackenzie Kepler (111 kills, 148 digs).
