The #11 Grand Valley State women's swimming & diving team dominated a pair of foes Saturday afternoon picked up a pair wins. GVSU defeated #4 Indianapolis 200-105 and Davenport 237-60. The Lakers won 11 events, including three from
Melina Goebel and two from
Hannah Richard and
Mikayla Karasek. GVSU will next be in action Feb. 20-23 at the GLIAC Championships.
Grand Valley State opened with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay.
Meda Kulbaciauskaite,
Celia Hoag,
Mercedes Martinez and
Lara Deibel hit the wall first (3:56.11), followed by the relay team of
Melina de Cort,
Samantha Laurich,
Freyja Garbaccio and
Hannah Richard in second (3:57.08).
Melina Goebel won the first of her three races when she touched first in the 1000 free (10:22.02), followed by
Caroline Brereton in third (10:41.72). Deibel touched second in the 200 free (1:55.18), while Kulbaciauskaite was second in the 100 back (58.77), de Cort third (58.90) and Garbaccio fourth (59.90).
Hoag led a 1-2 finish in the 100 breast (1:07.05), while Laurich was second (1:07.16). Goebel picked up win number two when she touched the wall first in the 200 fly (2:08,70), followed by Martinez in third (2:13.57). Richard won the 50 free (24.57) and Deibel picked up a win in the 100 free (53.26).
Sidney Weaver finished third in the 100 free (54.86).
Caroline Brereton touched first in the 200 back (2:05.07) and de Cort was third (2:08.19). Laurich hit the wall first in the 200 breast (2:23.17), while Hoag was third (2:26.58). Goebel notched her third win when she touched first in the 500 free (5:07.90), while
Megan Shaughnessy was third (5;17.34).
Richard led a 1-2 finish in the 100 fly (57.85) and Martinez was second (58.75). Deibel was second in the 200 IM (2:09.96) and the Lakers' 200 free relay team of Weaver, Martinez, Kulbaciauskaite and Richard touched first (1:38.30).
Mikayla Karasek picked up wins on both the 1-meter (306.75) and 3-meter boards (257.05).
Nicole Carlson was third on the 1-meter board (247.65).
