Grand Valley State swept a non-conference men's and women's swimming & diving dual meet at Findlay Friday evening. The #3 Laker men won 12 events en route to a 171-62 win, while the #11 GVSU women claimed a 143-97 victory. GVSU will return to action versus Indianapolis and Davenport Saturday, Jan. 19.
Women
GVSU finished second in the 200 medley relay as
Freyja Garbaccio,
Celia Hoag,
Hannah Richard and
Sidney Weaver touched second in 1:49.68.
Caroline Brereton hit the wall first in the 1000 free (10:37.80), while
Charlotte Brereton finished third (10:53.77) and
Allison Wells fourth (11:01.47).
Melina Goebel hit the wall first in the 200 free (1:54.74) and Melina de Court finished third (2:00.60).
Lara Deibel finished third in the 50 free (24.93), while
Samantha Laurich hit the wall second (2:11.56) and
Hailey Garlich (2:16.78) third in the 200 IM.
Senior
Hannah Richard claimed the win in the 100 fly (58.85), while
Lara Deibel (53.56) and
Allison Wells (56.13) finished first and third in the 100 free.
Meda Kulbaciauskaite hit the wall second in the 100 back (58.92), followed by
Melina de Cort in third (59.83). Goebel added another win in the 500 free and led a 1-2-3 finish when she hit the wall first in a time of 5:09.04.
Caroline Brereton was second (5:15.79) and
Megan Shaughnessy third (5:17.00). Deibel touched second (1:07.16) and Laurich (1:07.66) in the 100 breast. The 200 free relay team of Richard, Wells, Weaver and Goebel hit the wall second (1:40.89), whiel Shaughnessy,
Brooke Elenbaas, Garlich and
Megan White was third (1:45.04).
GVSU went took the top five spots on the 1-meter board, led by
Mikayla Karasek in first (270.25).
Nicole Carlson was second (262.40),
Nicole Taormina third (259.85). Karasek claimed top honors on the 3-meter board with a score of 264.00, followed by Carlson in second (221.85) and
Sarah Horowitz in third (207.40).
Men
The Lakers' 200 medley relay team of
Noah Ellis,
Ahmed Nabih, Oscar Saura Armengol hit the wall first in 1:35.96, followed by
Gabriel Souza,
JD Ham,
Harry Shalamon and
Keegan Hawkins in second (1:36.90). The Lakers went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free led by
Cade Vruggink in first (10:05.29),
Daniel Mullen in second (10:19.23) and
David Turner in third (10:23.72). GVSU tallied another 1-2-3 finish in the 200 free as Nabih hit the wall first (1:44.36), followed by
Ben Walling in second (1:45.53) and
Jesse Goodyear in third (1:46.62). Saura Armengol hit the wall first in the 50 free (21.84), while
Eric Klein touched second (22.33).

Noah Ellis touched the wall first in the 100 back (53.44), while Walling was third (53.84). The Lakers finished the individual events with a 1-2-3 finish in the 500 free as
Keegan Hawkins finished first (4:41.94),
Eric Klein second (4:58.11) and
Jonathan Loshinskie third (5:00.07). The 200 free relay team of Hawkins, Shalamon, Mullen and Walling finished first in 1:27.06.
Chris Kelly finished first on the 1-meter board (276.25) and second on the 3-meter board with a score of 248.85.
