The Grand Valley State men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to the #26-ranked Northwood Timberwolves on Friday afternoon. The Lakers fall to 10-5 on the season and 2-1 against GLIAC opponents, while the Timberwolves improved to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the GLIAC.
GVSU earned two of its three points in singles competition, while Northwood score four points in singles play.
Sebastien Lescoulie, who is ranked 72nd in the nation tallied an impressive 6-1, 6-0, win from the No. 1 singles position, while
Jack Geissler won 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Playing from the No. 3 singles slot,
Alex van de Steenoven fell 6-3, 6-2, while
Nicholas Urban battled at No. 4 singles but dropped in two sets 7-6, 6-4.
DJ Colantone came up short in a tested three set match, winning the first set 6-1, before falling 6-3, 6-4 from the No. 5 spot, and
Eric Zwemer fell 6-3, 6-2 from No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, Northwood would win from the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles position. Colantone and Geissler picked up the Lakers only point in doubles, as the duo defeated David Reinauer and Francois Sauerman and won 8-3 from the No. 2 doubles position.Â
Grand Valley State will be in action tomorrow, as they travel Big Rapids, Michigan to take on the #23-ranked Ferris State Bulldogs for a 10 a.m. GLIAC matchup.Â
