The Grand Valley State men's tennis team hosted the Huskies of Michigan Tech on Friday evening at the Premier Athletic & Tennis Club in Grandville, Michigan, for its GLIAC opener and won, 9-0. The Lakers are now 9-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference, while the Huskies drop to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in conference.
GVSU got off to a hot start and never looked back as they swept doubles to start the match. The duo of
Alex van de Steenoven and
Sebastien Lescoulie won 8-2 against Mario Neto and Ignacio Carbajosa at No. 1 doubles, while
Jack Geissler and
DJ Colantone defeated Simon Xiong and Nico Caviglia 8-2 from the No. 2 pairing.
Drew Coleman and
Nicholas Urban won 8-2, defeating Juan Felipe Chica and Illiya Chibirev from the No. 3 doubles spot.
In singles,
Sebastien Lescoulie came into the match ranked #69 in singles and won 6-1, 6-0, from the No. 1 singles position, while Geissler also tallied another point for the Lakers after he won 6-1, 6-0, from No. 2 singles.
Alex van de Steenoven and Urban both earned victories from the No. 3 and No. 4 positions by scores of 6-0, 6-1, and 6-0, 6-2. Colantone (6-1, 6-0) and
Alex Lescoulie (6-2, 6-1) added to GVSU's lead with solid victories from the No. 5 and No. 6 singles position.
Grand Valley State will be back in action on Saturday (March 24) at 6:45 p.m., as they host Lake Superior State at the Premier Athletic & Tennis Club in Grandville, Michigan.
