Laker men win 130.5-74.5; Women claim 141.5-43.5 win

The Grand Valley State men claimed a 130.5-74.5 win Saturday afternoon at Lewis, while the Laker women topped the Flyers 141.5-43.5. GVSU will return to action Saturday, Nov. 3 at Northern Michigan. 

Women

GVSU opened with a 1-2 finish in the 400 medley relay as Freyja Garbaccio, Samantha Laurich, Hannah Richard and Lara Deibel touched first in 3:57.46, followed by Caroline Brereton, Celia Hoag, Abigail Sauerbrei and Mercedes Martinez in second (4:04.03). The Lakers then went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free as Melina Goebel touched first (10:36.36), Charlotte Brereton second (10:49.76) and Megan Shaughnessy third (10:51.44). 

Sauerbrei touched first in the 200 free (1:59.01), followed by Caroline Brereton in third (1:59.84) and Allison Wells in fourth (2:00.94), while Richard tied for first in the 50 free (24.96). Sauerbrei added a first-place finish in the 200 fly (2:13.30) and Deibel touched first in the 100 free (54.19). Caroline Brereton touched first in the 200 back (2:06.93) and Goebel led a 1-2 finish in the 500 free (5:14.79), followed by Shaughnessy (5:22.33).

Laurich led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:23.24, followed by Hoag (2:27.18) and Paige Hoeve in third (2:32.54). The Laker women closed the dual with a win in the 400 free as Richard, Sidney Weaver, Martinez and Goeble hit the wall in 3:37.43. The team of Garbaccio, Allison Wells, Emily Pickett and Shelby Gertson finished second (3:46.80). 

Men

The 400 medley relay team of Harry Shalamon, Keegan Hawkins, Gabriel Souza and Ben Walling touched first with a time of 3:27.02, while Tabor Smyth, Ian Wesolowski, Joe Zlotnich and JD Ham finished second (3:34.66). Mortitz Bartels won the 1000 free (9:35.43), followed by Jesse Goodyear in second (9:35.90). Oscar Saura Armengol touched first in the 200 free (1:44.97), while Cade Vruggink was second (1:45.48). Walling finished third in the 50 free (21.47) and Hawkins touched first in the 200 IM (1:55.36). 

Saura Armengol won the 200 fly in a time of 1:55.25), followed by Goodyear in second (1:57.92). Walling added a second in the 100 free (47.01) and Shalamon finished first in the 200 back (1:54.92). Goodyear captured first in the 500 free with a time of 4:43.25, followed by Bartels in second (4:44.73). Hawkins touched first in the 200 breast (2:05.08), while Trevor Sallee finished second (2:13.08). The Lakers' 400 free relay team of Saura Armengol, Hatunen, Ham and Shalamon finished second (3:08.95).
