HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team defeated Michigan Tech on Saturday afternoon (4/1) by a score of 9-0. The win pushes the Lakers to 13-6 on the season and sport a 3-1 conference record.
The Lakers would start the day off with three wins in doubles play starting off with the duo of Alex Van de Steenoven and
Zach Phillips. The pair played out of the No. 1 spot and took down Mario Neto and Juan Felipe Chica by a score of 8-3. Out of the No. 2 spot was
Jack Heiniger and Sebastian Lescoulie who defeated Ricardo Paes and Jacob Prochnow by a score of 8-2. Also winning their doubles match was
Nicholas Urban and
Jack Geissler as they won their matchup against Illiya Chibirev and Tayler Bethke 8-4.
Out of the No. 1 singles spot was Lescoulie who defeated Neto by a score of 6-1, 6-3.
Zach Phillips held down the No. 2 position as he defeated Chica by 6-1, 6-2 margin. Out of the No. 3 spot was
Jack Geissler who defeated Paes by a score of 6-4, 6-3. Also winning their matches was Van de Steenoven (6-1, 6-3), Heiniger (6-0, 6-1), and Urban (6-0, 6-1).
Grand Valley State will be back in action on Sunday, April 2 as they continue their trip in the U.P. and take on the Lakers of Lake Superior State.
