KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Grand Valley State Laker men's tennis team fell to division I opponent Western Michigan by a score of 7-0. The loss drops the Lakers to 10-4 on the season but still hold a 2-0 GLIAC record.
The Lakers were not able to nab any wins in the doubles side of the competition but didn't go down without a fight. The duo of
Zach Phillips and Alex Van de Steenoven fell to Daniel Loebel and Kennosuke Nouchi by a score of 6-3. Also losing 6-3 was the Laker pair of Sebastian Lescoulie and
Jack Heiniger out of the No. 2 spot. Also falling to their Bronco counterparts were
Jack Geissler and
Nicholas Urban who fell 6-2.
Grand Valley wouldn't be able to find any success in singles competition either, as they dropped the six matches. Geissler out of the No. 3 spot put up a good fight against Matej Svjetlicic as he fell by two close scores of 6-4.
Nicholas Urban took his opponent to a third set after losing the first set 6-4 before turning around and winning the second set 6-4 before falling 1-0 (10-8) in a close third set.
The Lakers will have a few days off before they travel to Louisville, Ky. to face off against Bellarmine University on Thursday (3/23).
