The Grand Valley State men's swimming & diving team remained in first place at the 2017 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships on the campus of Saginaw Valley State. The Laker men have a two-day total of 484 points, followed by Wayne State in second (390) and Northern Michigan in third (322). The GLIAC Championships will continue Friday morning with 10 am prelims.Â
The Lakers opened the second day of finals with a GLIAC Championship meet record in the 200 free relay and closed the session with a meet record in the 400 medley relay. Freshman

Marcel Nagy set a GVSU school record, a GLIAC Championship meet record and hit the NCAA provision cut with a first-place time of 3:12.27.Â
Souza dominated the 100 fly and continued the Lakers' record-setting march as he set a meet record and hit the NCAA A cut with a first-place time 46.27. Nagy was third with a B cut time of 48.17, followed by ninth-place finish and an NCAA B cut time of 49.38. Senior
Jesus Morales also hit the B cut with a 10th-place finish (49.43), while senior
Garret McCormick finished 14th (50.43).Â

Grant Borregard finished third in the 400 IM and hit the NCAA B cut with a time of 3:59.86, followed by junior Joseba Hidalgo-Vilela in fifth (4:01.55) with another B cut. Junior

The Lakers recorded a 1-2-3 finish on the 3-meter diving board and tallied three NCAA provisional marks, highlighted by sophomore
Brad Dalrymple defending his 3-meter title with a score of 527.40. Junior
Joe Gucwa finished second with an 11-dive total of 485.15, followed by fellow junior
Jared Gregory who finished third with a score of 482.65. Freshman
Alex Miller finished eighth with a score of 377.05.Â
