Day 1 Results
The two-time defending GLIAC Champion Grand Valley State men's swimming & diving team turned in a stellar first day at the 2017 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships with 190 points. Northern Michigan is second with 143 points, followed by Wayne State in third (138) and Saginaw Valley State in fourth. The GLIAC Championships, hosted by Saginaw Valley State, will run through Saturday (Feb. 11).
The Lakers closed the opening day with a GLIAC Championship record, a school-record and an NCAA provisional mark in the 200 medley relay.

Marius Mikalauskas,
Gabriel Souza and
JD Ham touched the wall in 1:27.34, breaking the previous GLIAC mark (1:27.78) held by Wayne State.
Grand Valley State dominated the 50 free, placing six among the top 13 in the finals. Sophomore
Ben Walling set a school-record, hit the NCAA B cut and finished second in a time of 20.14. Freshman
Marcel Nagy set the GVSU freshman record and also hit the NCAA B cut with a time of 20:16.
Danny Abbott finished sixth (20.32) and hit the B cut, followed by Ham in seventh (20:40, B), Souza in ninth (20:22, B) and Shalamon in 13th (20.68, B).
Junior
Grant Borregard hit the NCAA B cut and finished fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.92, while Mikalauska, a sophomore who also hit the NCAA B cut and finished fifth with a time of 1:51.41. Junior Joseba Hidalgo-Vilela finished seventh with a time of 1:54.51, followed by senior
Jesus Morales in 11th (1:53.22), senior
Tim Harris in 12th (1:53.55) and freshman
Ahmed Nabih in 15th (1:55.06).
Senior Brien Moffitt hit the wall sixth in the 1000 free (9:37.12), followed by junior
Michael Hudson in 10th (9:40.49) and
Jonathan Loshinskie in 12th (9:47.51).
