The Grand Valley State men's swimming & diving team increased its lead at the 2017 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships to 157 points. GVSU has a three-day total of 753 points, followed by Wayne State in second (596) and Northern Michigan in third (542). GVSU will look for its third consecutive GLIAC crown Saturday evening.
Sophomore
Marius Mikalauskas set a school-record and hit the NCAA B cut in the 100 breast when he touched the wall first in 53.96. Senior
Tim Harris finished sixth (56.03),
Garret McCormick eighth (56.42),
JD Ham 12th (57.61) and
Ahmed Nabih 14th (57.91).
Jesus Morales hit the NCAA B cut in the 200 fly with his fourth-place finish in a time of 1:49.49.
Gabriel Souza finished eighth (1:54.85) and Joseba Hidalgo-Vilela ninth (1:52.10).
Freshman
Harry Shalamon hit the NCAA B cut in the 100 back with his third-place finish in 47.96, while fellow freshman
Marcel Nagy hit the wall fourth (48.15) and also hit the B cut. Sophomore
Ben Walling finished seventh (49.52) with an NCAA B cut. Junior
Grant Borregard hit the NCAA B cut with a fifth-place finish (4:36.42) in the 500 free, while fellow junior
Michael Hudson hit the NCAA B cut in the morning prelims of the 500 free (4:36.31) and finished sixth (4:38.56) in the evening finals.
Brien Moffitt finished 10th (4:37.38) and Jonathan Loshinski 13th (4:43.44).
Sophomore
Brad Dalrymple captured his second GLIAC title and hit the NCAA provisional mark with a first-place finish on the 1-meter board (513.25).
Jared Gregory hit the provisional mark with a 458.20 with his second-place finish and
Joe Gucwa completed the 1-2-3 sweep with a provision mark of 456.75.
Alex Miller added a fifth-place finish on the 1-meter board with a score of 401.65.
The Lakers closed the session with a second-place finish in the 800 free relay as the team of Mikalauskas,
Danny Abbott, Borregard and Walling hit the wall in an NCAA provisional time of 6:42.55.
