Grand Valley State swept a non-conference affair in the final home dual of the season Saturday afternoon at the GVSU Pool. The #7 GVSU men claimed a 176-123 victory over the #13 Greyhounds, while the #8 Grand Valley State women topped #16 Indianapolis 170.5-115.5. GVSU will next be in action at the GLIAC Championships Feb. 8-11 at Saginaw Valley State.
The GVSU women won 11 events, including six of which they went for a 1-2 finish. The Laker women opened with a victory in the 200 medley relay as
Meghan Falconer,
Emily Gallagher,
Mercedes Martinez and
Leonie Van Noort touched first in 4:01.65. GVSU also took third with
Allison Wells,
Paige Hoeve,
Kaitlin Cassell and
Sam Postmus touching the wall in 4:07.58.
Megan Shaughnessy finished first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:39.01, followed by
Melina Goebel in second (10:48.52) and
Julia Suriano in fourth (11:02.11).
Senior
Jenn Priebe turned in a stellar win in the 200 free when she touched the wall in 1:58.24, while Wells finished third (1:58.72). The Lakers went 1-2 in the 100 back with Van Noort claiming the win in 58.50. Cassell recorded a second-place finish (1:00.49).
Emily Gallagher dominated the 100 breast and finished first in 1:03.94, followed by
Paige Hoeve touched third (1:11.46). Goebel hit the wall second (2:13.22) and
Hailey Garlich third (2:17.02) in the 200 fly. Priebe continued a strong senior day swim with a second win, this one coming in the 50 free (25.03), followed by a second-place finish in the 100 free (54.20).
Kathryn Culver touched third in the 100 free (55.25).
Postmus led a 1-2 finish in the 200 back with a winning time of 2:01.02, followed by
Allison Wells in second (2:09.56). Gallagher picked up a win in the 200 breast (2:28.09), while
Lauren Ryan finishd third (2:34.42). Van Noort led the way in the 500 free as GVSU went 1-2-3. She hit the wall in 4:55.59, followed by
Emily Toro in second (5:14.56) and
Rachel Eaton in third (5:17.19). Martinez finished third in the 100 fly (1:01.32). Postmus set a pool record in the 200 IM (2:05.01) swimming in an exhibition.
Mikayla Karasek claimed a win on the 3-meter board with a score of 237.67, while finishing second on the 1-meter (233.17).
Kayla Marquardt finished first on the 1-meter board (235.20) and second on the 3-meter (199.57).
The GVSU men won nine events, but dominated the dual with depth in every event. The 400 medley relay team of
Harry Shalamon,
Marius Mikalauskas,
Gabriel Souza and
Danny Abbott went out fast and cruised to a win with a time of 3:22.72 that also set a new GVSU pool record (3:22.78).
Marcel Nagy,
Tim Harris,
Jesus Morales and
JD Ham finished third in a time of 3:29.93. GVSU went 2-3 in the 1000 free as
Michael Hudson touched second (10:02.57) and
Brien Moffitt third (10:10.47).
Grant Borregard touched second in the 200 free (1:45.74), followed by
Ahmed Nabih in third (1:46.51). Shalamon hit the wall second in the 100 back (52.39).
Mikalauskas won the 100 breast (57.45), while
Tim Harris touched third (58.56). Borregard finished second in the 500 free (4:47.81) and Hudson was third (4:49.75). Souza hit the wall first in the 100 fly (48.98), while
Jesus Morales touched third (51.71). Josebaa Hidalgo picked up a third-place finish in the 200 IM (1:56.25) and the Lakers' 200 free relay team of Nagy, Abbott, Souza and
Ben Walling finished first with a time of 1:23.96.
Brad Dalrymple was a double winner, claiming top honors one the 1-meter (282.82) and 3-meter boards (358.12).
Jared Gregory was second on both boards, scoring 270.68 points on the 1-meter and 285.37 on the 3-meter.
