ALLENDALE, Mich. – The 2015-16 Capital One Academic All-District Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), were announced Friday (May 13) afternoon, and three Grand Valley State student-athletes were among the honorees. Men's swimmer Gianni Ferrero, men's tennis player Michael Kaye, and women's lacrosse player Meghan Datema all received Academic All-District 4 honors.

A French major, Datema currently holds a 3.98 GPA. The sophomore midfielder has played in 19 games this season and is the team's second leading goal scorer with 45 goals and has added eight assists for 53 points on the season. The Grand Rapids, Mich.-native leads the team with 68 draw controls and currently has 19 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. Datema, who was named All-GLIAC First Team and the GLIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week once this season, was also a member of the 2014-15 lacrosse team that was one of 50 teams to be honored by the IWLCA as an Academic Honor Squad for a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Ferrero, a native of Idstein, Germany, carries a 3.80 GPA as an international business and management major. Ferrero received six All-America honors during the 2015-16 season and was the National Champion in the 100m butterfly and finished runner-up in the 200m butterfly. Ferrero was named one of two GLIAC Winter Commissioner's Award recipients for Grand Valley State in 2016 for exemplary work in the pool and in the classroom.

Kaye, an Accounting major with a GPA of 3.76, completed his final year of competition with a singles record of 9-5 overall and 6-1 in dual meets, and a doubles record of 15-12 overall and 7-6 in dual matches. The native of West Bloomfield, Mich. helped Grand Valley State reach the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament final as well as the GLIAC Tournament final. Kaye has twice been included on the GLIAC Spring All-Academic Excellence List in 2014 and 2015, and was named an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2014-15 for finishing the season with a GPA of at least 3.50 or higher.

All three will be placed on the Capital One Academic All-America At-Large ballots, which will be revealed the week of June 6-9.
