ALLENDALE, Mich. - Grand Valley State men's tennis picked up their first conference win of the season with an impressive 9-0 win over Tiffin on Saturday, upping their record to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC.
In doubles action, the three Laker teams cruised to victory, no allowing their opponents to score more than four points.

Bryan Hodges improved to 7-4 in dual matchs with an 8-3 victory in the No. 1 position, while

Alex van de Steenoven and
Quinn Sylow/
Jack Heiniger both won their matches 8-4. Phillips/Steenoven improved to 10-1 in dual matches, and Sylow/Heiniger upped their dual match record to 13-2 in 2015.
GVSU carried over their success in doubles play into the singles side of the match. Bertrand (6-4, 6-2) in the No.1, Steenoven (6-3, 6-3) in the No. 3, and
Andrew Bole (6-2, 6-2) in the No. 6 both won their matches in straight sets, while Phillips (4-6, 6-1, 11-9) in the No. 2 spot and Hodges (6-3, 3-6, 10-3) needed a tiebreaker set to claim victory. Heiniger won the first set of his match in the No. 4 spot, but his opponent was forced to retire.
The Lakers hit the courts again on Sunday (Mar. 22) at the Ramblewood Tennis & Health Club in Grandville when they take on Findlay at 10 a.m.
