Results

ORLANDO - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team opened up their Spring Break trip to the Sunshine State with an impressive 7-2 victory over Montana State-Billings at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando. The Lakers improve their record to 3-1 with the win, while the Yellow Jackets' record drops to 0-4.

After their early-afternoon game against Savannah College of Art and Design was cancelled due to the weather, the Lakers focused their sights on the Yellow Jackets later in the day. GVSU got off to a hot start on the day, sweeping the Yellow Jackets in doubles action. Francis Bertrand/Bryan Hodges improved to 4-2 on the year with their 9-7 win as the No. 1 doubles team, while Zach Phillips/Alex van de Steenoven moved to 6-1 with an 8-3 win, and an 8-2 win by Quinn Sylow/Jack Heiniger upped their doubles record to 6-1 in 2014-15.

As for the singles portion of the match, Zach Phillips in the No. 1 spot and Quinn Sylow in the No. 5 spot were the only Lakers to lose their match, but they did take their opponent into the tiebreaker third set. Jack Heiniger also went into a tiebreaker set, but he ended up on the winning end. The easiest win of the singles action went to Andrew Bole, who won 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot.

Grand Valley State hits the courts again on Monday at 8 a.m. against Post University at the Lake Cane Tennis Courts in Orlando.
