ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's tennis has advanced to the sweet 16 after sweeping Rockhurst 4-0 Saturday (May 10) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 18-2 on the season and advances to nationals for the first time in program history.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Stephen Claassen and
Lawrence Ivanov tallied a dominant 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Denys Zamaraiev and
Chimo Minguez posted a dominant 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action,
Denys Zamaraiev clinched the win for the Lakers with a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win at the top singles position.
Victor Lopes claimed a dominant 6-1, 6-1 straight set win at No. 3 singles.
Jorge Ruiz posted a 6-3, 7-5 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
The Lakers will travel to Altamonte Springs, Florida for nationals which features the final 16 teams. The Lakers will wait to see who their opponent will be in the sweet 16 round as the match will be played on May 20
th at Sanlando Park.
