ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team opened up the NCAA Tournament with a 4-1 win over Tiffin Friday (May 9) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 17-2 on the season and advance to the second round.
Tiffin claimed the doubles point with win at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Denys Zamaraiev and
Chimo Minguez claimed a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Victor Lopes and
Lucas Gonzalez dropped a tough 3-6 decision at the top doubles position.
Stephen Claassen and
Lawrence Ivanov fell 3-6 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action,
Denys Zamaraiev claimed a 6-4, 6-3 straight set win at the top singles position.
Jorge Ruiz tallied a 6-2, 6-3 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Patricio Sepulveda clinched the win for GVSU with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.
Ignasi Garros posted a 6-3, 6-4 straight set win at No. 6 singles.
GVSU advances to the second round where they will face the winner of Rockhurst vs Drury in the second round. First serve is set for 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 10
th in Allendale at the GVSU Tennis Courts.
