• #7 Grand Valley State will host West Texas A&M in the home opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Lubbers Stadium. The Lakers claimed a 38-10 victory at Charleston last week, while the Buffaloes dropped a 52-21 decision to #10 Western Colorado. 

• Head coach Scott Wooster enters his fourth year at the helm of the GVSU football program, sporting a record of 30-7.

• Grand Valley State leads the all-time series with WTAM by a 3-0 margin. All three games have gone into the fourth quarter with the result in question. The Lakers claimed a 37-23 victory on the road in 2009, then returned home to win a 34-31 contest in 2010. GVSU hosted the Buffaloes in a 2013 playoff game and trailed 28-14, but the Lakers scored 21 third quarter points to pull out the win, 35-28.

• The Lakers are 40-11 all-time in home openers at Lubbers Stadium. GVSU did not play a home game in its first two years as a program.  

• Grand Valley State opened its 55th season as a varsity sport last week at Charleston. GVSU is the winningest FBS, FCS and Division II program in the country, boasting a record of 461-156-3 (.750). In addition, GVSU is also the winningest GLIAC program all-time with a 326-80-3 mark (.800). 


• West Texas A&M is under the direction of 4th-year head coach Josh Lynn who has a record of 16-15 at WTAM. Lynn is 90-71 all-time in 15 years as a head coach.  

• Grand Valley State has several new faces on the coaching staff for the 2026 campaign.

• Senior WR Kellen Reed reached the 1,000 career receiving mark (1,125) on 65 catches. Reed has 14 career receiving TDs and four KO return TDs. In addition, Reed now has 2,648 all-purpose yards.

• Sophomore QB Andrew Schuster has completed 201-of-313 passes (64.2) for 2,805 yards and 25 TDs in his career. 

• Senior LB Jimmy Downs has 128 career tackles entering tonight's game.

• Grand Valley State is the winningest FBS, FCS and Division II program in the country, boasting a record of 461-156-3 (.750) in 54 years of playing football. In addition, GVSU is also the winningest GLIAC program all-time with a 326-80-3 mark (.800).

• GVSU has led the nation in total attendance for 14 consecutive years. The Lakers hosted 68,612 in six home games (11,435 pg).
