Men's Golf Concludes Day Two Of National Championships

BOULDER CITY, NEV. – Day two concluded at the Division II men's golf national championships, with the Laker men staying in contention. GVSU is in 11th, seven shots back of the eighth spot needed to advance.

Florida Southern has taken over the team lead with a score of -18. One shot back of them is UMSL, followed by Columbus State at -12. Lee and West Florida are tied for fourth, both ending at nine under par. The next three spots belong to CSU San Bernadino (-7), Wingate (-6), and Georgia Southwestern (-4). The top eight teams will advance to Thursday's medal match play quarterfinals.
 
Manuel Cue Vargas is the top golfer for GVSU, ending the day in 14th place at four under par. The senior shot a 71 (-1) today with four birdies and an eagle. Bryce Wheeler rose nine spots into a tie for 39th at even par following his round of 71 (-1) with four birdies. Andrew Gwilliams had the best day for the Lakers, carding a 69 (-3) with three birdies to climb to a tie for 65th at +3. Ryan Gallagher and Charlie Cooley are both tied at +9 in 90th. Cooley shot a 79 (+7) with four birdies and Gallagher shot an 80 (+8).
