National Championships Start Monday For #5 Men's Golf

BOULDER CITY, NEV. – The Grand Valley State men's golf team will begin the biggest tournament of the season Monday morning, playing in the National Championship. The five-day will go through Friday when a National Champion will be crowned.

This year's National Championships will be played at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada, just outside of Las Vegas. The tournament is set up for three days of 18-hole stroke play starting on Monday, then the top eight teams advancing to Thursday's match play. The quarterfinals will be Thursday morning, with the semifinals following that. The top two teams remaining will square off on Friday for the team title.
 
In the field are 20 teams vying for those eight spots, alongside eight individuals. There are 11 top 25 teams playing this week, including the top six programs. GVSU is currently slotted fifth in the Scoreboard national rankings.
 
GVSU will tee off starting at 10:26 pacific time tomorrow, with the next golfers going off in 11-minute intervals. They will be playing with Western Washington and Nova Southeastern. In the lineup for the Lakers are Bryce Wheeler, Manuel Cue Vargas, Andrew Gwilliams, Ryan Gallagher, and Charlie Cooley. Maverick Conaway is the team's sub, able to be placed in the lineup after the end of any round.
 
The Lakers are coming off winning both the GLIAC Championship and the Midwest/Central SuperRegional. It was their second regional title in program history. They will be playing in their seventh National Championship and first since 2024. GVSU has advanced to match play one time in program history, tying for fifth in 2023.
