BOULDER CITY, NEV. – The Grand Valley State men's golf team got underway in the National Championships on Monday, playing the opening 18 holes. After round one, GVSU is tied for 10
th, two shots out of the top eight, who advance to match play.
Results
West Texas A&M and UMSL are both tied atop the leaderboard at -10. Florida Southern and Lee ended the day knotted at eight under in third. Following them in a tie for fifth are Colorado Christian and Georgia Southwestern, both shooting -5. West Florida is two strokes back of them in seventh, with Central Missouri in eight at one under. Columbus State shot even par to sit in ninth, while the Lakers and Nova Southeastern are tied in 10
th at one over par.
Leading the way for GVSU is
Manuel Cue Vargas. The senior is in a tie for 10
th at -3 after his round of 69 with four birdies and two eagles.
Bryce Wheeler and
Ryan Gallagher are tied for 48
th with a score of +1. Each shooting 73, Wheeler sank three birdies and Gallagher had an eagle along with three birdies.
Charlie Cooley carded a 74 (+2) with four birdies to tie for 62
nd. In a tie for 94
th is
Andrew Gwilliams, who shot a 78 (+6) with two birdies.
The Lakers tee off in round two at 7:30 PST/10:30 EST. They are once again paired with Nova Southeastern and Western Washington.
