Lakers Set to Host Wayne State and Saginaw Valley State

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team is back home for a pair of GLIAC doubleheaders this weekend. The Lakers will host Wayne State on Friday, April 3rd at 3:00 PM and Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, April 4th at 1:00 PM.

GVSU is 15-13 overall on the season and 5-1 in the GLIAC. The Lakers swept Davenport and Ferris State at home last weekend. GVSU hit walk-offs in both of the wins against Davenport with RBI singles by Elizabeth Wesoloski in game one and Jenna Ballard in game two. The Lakers enter the weekend having won seven out of their last nine games. GVSU is second in the conference with a .322 team batting average and are tied for first with a 2.45 ERA. 
Freshman Camryn Hall is second in the conference hitting .456 on the season with 20 runs scored and 13 RBI. Senior Elizabeth Wesoloski is sixth in the GLIAC with a .398 batting average and leads the team with 16 RBI. Faith Edwards has notched a .356 batting average with a team leading seven doubles and is second on the team with 19 runs scored. Sophomore pitcher Karli Dorr is second in the conference with a 1.72 ERA in 61 innings pitched and is fourth with 59 strikeouts. Freshman pitcher Allison Wright leads the GLIAC with a 1.50 ERA in seven appearances. Senior pitcher Navaeh Ingram is fourth in the GLIAC with a 2.04 ERA with five complete games. 
 
Wayne State is 12-13 on the season and 4-4 in the GLIAC. The Warriors swept Parkside and Roosevelt last weekend in a pair of home doubleheaders. Wayne State is hitting .288 as a team led by Hunter Near who is batting .316 on the season with four triples, 18 runs scored and 10 RBI. Brooke Bunch has notched a .313 batting average with a team leading eight doubles. Elly Koopman is hitting .311 on the season with 11 RBI and seven doubles. Sydney Long has made 13 appearances in the circle for the Warriors posting a 6-7 record with a 2.93 ERA and 56 strikeouts. 
 
Saginaw Valley State enters the weekend with an 18-8 overall record and 8-0 GLIAC mark. The Cardinals swept Roosevelt and Parkside last weekend in a pair of home doubleheaders and have won 11 straight games. SVSU is tied with GVSU with a conference best 2.45 team ERA. Aalana Kimble is third in the GLIAC with a 1.75 ERA and fifth with 57 strikeouts. Kimble has posted an 8-3 record in the circle with nine complete games in 12 starts. Kimble also leads the Cardinal offense hitting .442 on the season with 34 hits and five doubles. Macy Irelan is fifth in the GLIAC with a 2.22 ERA and is third with 68 strikeouts. Irelan is 7-4 on the season with eight complete games in 10 starts.
